I remember my deep love for timeless melodies and impactful stories from a very early age, singing in the church choir with my mom in first grade. At thirteen, I discovered my passion for performing, competing at music festivals, and gigging at local clubs and bars until I left for DUKE UNIVERSITY.
While studying public policy and human rights, I sang in the campus gospel choir and Jazz Ensemble and interned with hip-hop scholar and legend, 9th Wonder, at his record label. I quickly advanced, taking on key roles in A&R, administration, and creative direction, collaborating closely in artist development and deepening my understanding of music production and business. These formative years enriched my creative and musical spirit, laying the foundation for my current work.
My journey as an artist is further marked by my battle with PTSD, chronic migraines, and depression and it has led to significant introspection and growth, making the music I write and compose plea a gentle peace, nostalgic calm, and sentimental serenity. I’m currently working on delivering my debut project to you and it features songs I wrote to transform personal pain and challenges into healing and hope. With ethereal hums, luscious harmonies, deep bass, and fingerpicked guitar, this special project I’ve worked on for over 4 years truly embodies my creative vision and resilience.
Through my art, I aim to offer listeners comfort and connection, echoing the lullabies my mother sang to me and themes of coming out of Plato’s Cave. As I continue to find my way and voice as an artist, I invite you to join me on this journey of discovery and healing, one song at a time.
With gratitude,
CARA
